Bound by Tradition

SHERMAN

While wandering the numerous rooms of an ante bellum mansion made available by DONMA for a full-day co-op shoot in Virginia Sherman and I discovered he bore a striking resemblance to the owner's ancestors. The thought came to our minds to do a series of formal "family portraits." I asked him to look purposefully distant as if he were "bound by the tradition" of his position -- wanting to be wild, but leashed by family obligations and money. To complete the effect the photos are finished in the style of 1930s hand-tinted prints.
